Curtain Fabric: Types and Designs
We should always dress our rooms with the best curtains or window blinds to make it more attractive. Hence, when choosing curtain fabrics there are certain factors that may affect our decisions.
Purpose.
Some customers used to have a different set of curtains for special events like birthdays or family reunions. They also have different curtains for bedrooms and a separate set for their living or dining areas. Usually, curtains with plain designs are only good to use in our bathrooms and we rather spend more time thinking what curtain in particular we should use in other parts of the house.
Quality.
There are different types of fabric–silk, cotton, wool and linen. Silks are often used by many and despite the fact that it’s expensive and can easily be tattered when expose directly from sunlight. Cottons are easy to clean and very affordable. During summer, most household use linen however, they have to endure one negative fact about this fabric –it can grasp wrinkles easily. There are also homeowners that are persuaded to buy synthetic fabric curtains, which are also good for adding curtain linings.
Patterns/Designs.
We are very keen when choosing the right patterns of fabrics that will match the interior of our homes. From your choice of minimalist, formal or retro designs there should still be coordination between the walls, flooring and windows. Our curtains will look more elegant if the fabric that will be used has already patterns nicely embedded on them.
The choices of fabric are broad; from simple hand-made, to designer curtain fabric or made to measure curtains.
Even our own bathrooms need a pair of curtains too. But fabric shower curtain has diverse criteria to consider. These curtains are usually long and don’t have bold designs. Bathroom curtains are just plain white to give emphasis on your flooring or tiles.
Cost.
Budget is definitely something to reckon when we buy something but it’s obvious that larger windows will cost you more. We also need to match it with nice curtain poles. Homeowners usually hires someone to get the proper measurement of their windows therefore, they won’t be wasting money especially when they order online.
Proper Maintenance.
A simple wash-and-dry method is not enough to keep the beauty of your curtains and make it last longer. Use only mild soap or detergent powder; hand-washing is mostly preferred especially when you have soft and thin layers of curtains. Direct sunlight should also be avoided especially for dark-colored fabric to prevent them from fading. As such, colored curtains have to be dried indoors while white curtain fabric has to be soaked shortly before hanging them up straight. However, choosing fabric like polyester has a better capacity to resist heat and possible fading.
Ironing curtains must also be done properly as other fabric can absorb heat easily resulting to damage. Begin with the top part down to the bottom and in case of ruffled curtains, you must first locate the main part before proceeding to the sides. When removing dust or small amount of spilled liquid you only have to use wet cloth and carefully wipe those grimes.
